Heavy rain warning issued across parts of UK ahead of Easter weekend (2025)

Make sure your brollies are at the ready during Easter egg hunts because the UK’s weather is set to shift drastically.

Once again, the UK weather has shown how quickly it can change from the warmest day of the year so far (24°C) recorded in northwest London on Saturday to torrential rain, which has landed today.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy downpours in place today and tomorrow, marking an end to ‘wall-to-wall sunshine’ in most parts of the country heading into the Easter bank holiday.

Met Office’s chief meteorologist Matthew Lehnert said: ‘After a long spell of high pressure bringing dry weather and sunshine, gloomier and unsettled conditions are on the horizon.

‘Low pressure has become established to the west of the UK bringing cloud, rain showers, and lower temperatures for many. ’

When will the heavy rain hit?

The yellow weather warning is in place from midday today until tomorrow afternoon in the western parts of England and most of Wales.

‘More persistent and heavy rain is expected on Tuesday into early Wednesday,’ the weather expert said.

Homes in the area could be flooded and spray and waterlogged roads could hamper travel, the forecaster warns.

There could be more bad weather on the way due to a low-pressure system near Portugal moving towards the UK, meaning wet conditions continuing until Good Friday.

It could bring potential ‘heavy rain and thunderstorms,’ Lehnert said.

He continued: ‘High rainfall totals are possible, but given the recent dry conditions, significant impacts are not anticipated. The situation remains under close watch, with further wet conditions anticipated on Thursday and another weather front moving in on Friday.

Temperatures will hover around the average for this time of the year, the Met Office said.

What about the Easter bank holiday weather?

There will be some ‘persistent outbreaks of rain’ forming in many parts of the UK on Good Friday, with even ‘risk of hail and thunder’ with strong winds, the Met Office has said.

Its long-term forecast says: ‘Showers or longer spells of rain are likely across many regions, these heavy at times with a risk of hail and thunder, perhaps accompanied by strong winds.

‘Some drier and brighter interludes are also likely at times, but probably with large amounts of cloud.’

Chilly nights are also in the cards.
